At A Balanced Child, we value a comprehensive approach. We customize a therapeutic plan that includes all of the areas of development as well as the therapies needed to help your child meet their milestones. We work towards integrating our therapists' collaborative training with those of other disciplines. This comprehensive approach allows us to address your child’s needs in an individualized balanced plan.
We currently offer Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Classroom- Academic Program, Group Play, and Parent/Professional Training.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a systematic approach to modify behavior, improving social interaction and facilitating learning. Many children learn from their environment, others benefit from a structured setting with 1:1 opportunities to acquire fundamental skills.
There is no standard "cut and paste" ABA program. In fact, you should immediately walk away from any service provider suggesting it! As thoroughly documented in decades of field analysis in Journal of Applied Analysis, such an approach can be dangerous. At A Balanced Child, we carefully monitor and adjust these techniques based on your child's specific learning needs and responses.
In keeping with this, our Curriculum is extensive. Among the basic procedures used in ABA learning programs:
Through a system of coordinated services during your child's critical learning years, we provide indispensable early intervention. Our Balanced Plans link multiple community resources such as ECI and Any Baby Can to ensure your child's development and achievement of their highest potential.
The components and pace of each child's plan are meticulously cultivated during in-depth consultation over a 12-week period. This allows for prudent monitoring of the child's progress and implementation of each of the components in the Balanced Plan...a plan whose curriculum will include:
Accepting the following insurance providers:
Community First Medicaid
AETNA Medicaid
At A Balanced Child, we understand the importance of academic goals. Our Classroom Program focuses on academic studies. It structures the classroom to guide and support the lessons. We review current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals and map our the skills necessary to achieve them. Our certified special education teacher creates a schedule inclusive of the varying abilities in the class and fosters each student's academic pace. The academic subjects studied include the fundamental standards required for Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). You can read more about Unique Learning at www.n2y.com.
Program Hours: Monday - Thursday from 2:30pm - 5:30pm
Ratio: 1:6 (teacher:child)
Ages: 3 yrs - 8 yrs
We believe every child is unique and their success and growth will come from encouragement and praise. We nurture your child's natural strengths and guide them in achieving developmental milestones. Through play a child sees the world with wonder and awe. However, on occasion, encouraging that natural curiosity first requires guidance in a structured setting.
So, our Group Play focuses on instruction, practice, and reinforcement of social skills through play in a structured inclusive setting. Children learn the social skills needed to play with other children in all situations.
Our small ratios (at times 1:1) allow us to work with youngsters (18mos to 7yrs 11mos) during the four-hour Group Play session. Each child gets a developmental portfolio that includes their current strengths and developmental milestones to meet. As your child develops new skills and master's new activities, the classroom in modified. Much like a preschool classroom, this allows your child to work on the skills needed for success in future class settings.
Program Hours: Monday - Friday from 9:00am - 1:00pm
Ratio: 1:4 (teacher:child)
Ages: 18 mos - 7yrs
Additional Group Play sessions for children up to 10yrs of age include Holiday Play (November & December) and our Summer Sessions.
At A Balanced Child we strive to provide the best treatment for children and their families. We help youngsters acquire the tools necessary to aid in modifying behavior, improving social interaction, facilitate learning...tools that will help make them more successful each day. A Balanced Child offers professional consulting at your facility. Parent trainings are scheduled both in home and at our location.
A Balanced Child helps parents make sure a child’s special needs are met. We help parents understand available services, interpret test results, and work with schools to plan individualized education programs (IEPs).
For a student with special needs, learning concerns take many forms. A Balanced Child helps families address previously identified learning challenges, as well as pinpoint overlooked factors that may be affecting a child’s ability to learn. These include:
·Learning disabilities
·Intellectual disabilities
·Vision and hearing impairments
·Speech and language disorders
·ADHD
·Autism spectrum disorder
·Behavioral and emotional disorders
A Balanced Child takes on many responsibilities to empower families and give a voice to students. We perform the following duties:
·Advising parents about services, programs, and accommodations that meet their children’s individual needs
·Helping parents interpret reports and evaluations, as well as explaining their implications
·Drafting requests, responses, and complaints to schools
·Assisting parents with submitting written requests
·Preparing parents for IEP and 504 meetings (meetings that outline the services and accommodations students will receive and how schools will remove barriers to learning, such as providing a talking calculator to students with dyscalculia), which may include suggesting support materials or prioritizing goals and objectives.
Our belief is that every child can learn. We use our knowledge of educational science and special education law to help our families navigate the public and private school system. We believe every child has a fundamental right to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). We also believe in the importance of collaborating with all the active members of your child's development.
